I'll be honest...
Yoga and I have had an on-again off-again love affair for several years now. Well, it isn't the love that is come and go, it is the practice.
I used to be quite the little gym rat. Even when I was pregnant with my first, I was in that gym 5 days a week at 6:00 am, swimming, jogging the track, or lifting weights. I was not only the smallest and trimmest I had ever been, I was 100% in the best shape of my life.
With my second, I was struggling with pregnancy depression and soon after, postpartum psychosis and part of my prescribed treatment was exercise, meditation, and a whole hell-of-a-lot of medication. Yoga fit the bill for the first two and I was certain if I could get those under way, the last would taper off.
As time went on, I went back to work and left my practice behind. We moved to a new town and suddenly my "practice" was keeping the new house clean and organized.
The depression weened, the medications too...
and now, here I am, resuming my practice for me. For my health, for my sanity, for an element of focus, dedication and routine in my life.
Essential oils were a huge part of my health improvement during that time, and now they are a part of me helping others do the same. Maybe not for depression, but for headaches or body aches, focus and will power, or your fitness routine.
Several of the NoraBelle blends are a key part of yoga in my house. Here are some of my tips and personal recommendations!
There is something about doing sun salutations with the rising sun. It's also a huge benefit for me in two ways-
1, everyone is still asleep and I get to practice without little girls sitting on my ankles or adding their toys to my mat and
2- if I do it first thing, I don't have to talk myself into it (and eventually out of it) later after work or before bed.
If you need something to wake you up a bit, heat up a cup of water and add a slice of lemon. Take a few deep breaths, as citrus oils help you wake up, where as drinking the hot water will warm up your digestive track for when you are ready to eat after your routine.
I roll any of these blends behind my ears, on my neck, the crown of my head, and my collarbone. Even though wrists and feet are a good place for oils, remember not to get all greased up before your practice. We definitely don't want any injuries.
Diffuse an Empowering Blend
Strong as F*ck is for inner strength and when I get a little wobbly on the mat or feel like I should just take a break in child's pose, I look at the diffuser, remember what is in there and I keep pushing myself. It gets me out of the negative "just stop, give up" self-talk and back into the game.
Start and End with Intentions
When I reach the end of that day's routine, I like to lay on my mat, heart high, hips and sacral open and focus on my intentions for the day. Yoga helps me get grounded and clear and this is the best time to really set forward what it is you plan on creating today.
Reward Your Self
I don't mean running through a drive through, or even getting a healthy smoothie. Not food. Reward yourself for your dedication to your emotional, physical and spiritual wellness. Yoga provides so many benefits and those are rewards enough, but sometimes getting something to help you continue your practice is just what you need to get the motivation going. Grab a new set of blocks or a strap, upgrade your mat, or... grab yourself some essential oils that will help you stay centered, grounded, focused and strong for whatever comes your way, on or off the yoga mat.
Me personally? I like the last one.

Essential oils are a natural way to remove toxins from our products and they smell really effing good! They host tons of benefits from physical and emotional to spiritual.
So to celebrate the grand spankin' new opening of NORABELLE WELLNESS I am sharing my 6 favorite recipes for just a few of the all natural products we use in our home.
½ cup of coconut oil
1 tablespoon of beeswax pellets or shaved beeswax
¼ cup baking soda
¼ cup cornstarch or arrowroot powder
10 drops lavender or other essential oil
For more details, check out Dreaming Earth.
2- All Purpose Cleaner
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup white vinegar
15 drops of tea tree oil
Viola! Put it in a spray bottle and rub down the counters, door knobs, toilet seats, etc. Never been easier or safer. I also use frankincense, lavender, and lemon from time to time!
3- Dryer Sheets
1- Take old cotton shirts and cut them into strips, place them in a closable glass container
2- Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar + 10 drops of your favorite oil or blend (my favorite for laundry is Nature's Love- nice and clean and not too girly for the hubs)
3- Pour mixture over the rags.
4- Squeeze one out and add it to the dryer when it's time!
4- Acne Spot Cleanser
2 drops tea tree, 1 drop lavender + 1 drop frankincense
I keep it in a little spice jar and dab a q-tip in it and rub it on any problem spots. For me, it brings it to a head super quickly so I am not waiting a week for it to come out and go away.
5- Perfume & Cologne
For safe dilution, I usually stick with about 5-7% oil to the rest jojoba oil. So for a 5 ml perfume blend (about 85 drops), I will do 6 drops of my favorite NoraBelle blend and 79 jojoba oil. Safe dilution rate for kids is 2% while for adults is about 5%. Play with the ratios to see what works best for you.
PS. My favorite 'perfume' is Energy Vampire. I am salivating over sweet basil right now!
6- Air Freshener
....and now for launch.
